![]() Lord Crewe Hotel
![]() ![]() ![]() The Lord Crewe Hotel is situated in the small village of Blanchland just off the A 68 toward Hexam in the North East of England. This building dates back to the 11th century where it was originally a Monastery, but has over the years been added to and has become today a warm and welcoming hotel.
Even though it has been brought upto date with our modern times it still holds it's old world charms open log fires, stone tile floors, the crypt bar and of course it's old world haunting's. The haunting's i refer to are that of a Dorothy Foster who is said to be seen floating through certain rooms at certain times of the year in anguish of her dead brother and also of a ghostly apparition of a praying monk who is said to have been seen by guests, who have awoken at the feeling of a presence at the foot of their bed, could this monk have been one of the many that were slaughtered many years ago by invading Scot's army's? Also some other strange and unusual happenings. Guests have been known to leave the hotel early and also they have asked to be moved into different room's apparently because of suffering a disturbing night's sleep.I have visited the place many, many times day and night and sometimes there is a feeling of not being alone but unfortunately i have never witnessed any paranormal activities here but who knows maybe one day.Could it be the focus of a future investigation?
If you are ever passing that way make sure you call in well worth the visit.
newby abbeys ghostly monk
This picture was taken by a Rev.Kenneth Lord in 1963 while photographing the alter in Newby Abbey in Yorkshire. At the time the picture was taken no other person was visible but upon development this huge hooded figure was present .This picture has been extensively tested by Home Office Labs and has not been proved to have been tampered with in any way.So could this be a picture of a true ghostly monk?
![]() Muncaster Castle
![]() This castle is in Cumbria and is reputed to have been of Roman origin. The castle and estate are owned by the Pennington family
who have owned this for many centuries.
The present owner is a Patrick Gordon-Duff-Pennington who says that many strange occurrences still happen, as in one day he went to open the door to the King's Room and something was holding the door from the other side restricting his enterance.Upon gaining access he found nobody or anything in the room but said that nothing of human flesh and blood could have vanished so quickly upon his entering. Also ghostly footsteps have been reported following people up the stairs.
Some of the Hauntings are maybe of "Tom fool" who was reputed to have been a nasty person often to be found sitting next to the castle gates under a tree and showing passer's by the wrong way to London (if he didn't like the look of them) sending them to the quicksands instead.
One story of Tom Fool was that the owner of the castle at the time a Sir Ferdinand Pennington had a daughter called Helwise and a local carpenter fell in love with her. This was to unsuitable for Sir Ferdinand that he paid Tom Fool to murder the carpenter. Of which he did so with great joy and upon completing this grizzly task showed his master the severed head of the carpenter to prove he had carried out his task. Tom's presence is said to still be felt to this day.
![]() The Tapestry Room is also said to be haunted and has a foreboding presence and often visitors do not enter the room which is also always cold and has been complained People who have slept in the room have reported to have heard a baby crying even though none were about and even more chilling the singing of a woman trying to soothe the baby. Other noises heard have been the rustling sounds of skirts.
An experience of a young woman who stayed in the Tapestry room one year was of her hearing footsteps outside of the room and then of the door opening naturally the woman was terrified and sat up and put on the light but to see nobody there. The next night she heard the same footsteps but also of children's voices singing softly.Muncater Castle has also been investigated by Paranormal Society's who have also witnessed occurrences.
Do you think there's something there ? Why not visit it and find out for yourself.
